4) Road Markings

It is important to assist the driver by having good road markings where applicable.
This can be split into three sections:

Road-ahead-in-right-lane
Approach Picture

Point-of-Entry
Point of Entry


Roundabout Lanes

(i) Approach

Highway (Dual Carriageway – UK) Roads:-

In this road category – diagonal yellow line strips situated about 1000 feet before the point of entry is effective to alert the driver to reduce speed.

 

(ii) Point of Entry

 

Splitter Islands:-

• Constructed close to the roundabout precinct
• To reduce the risk of approaching traffic conflicting with exiting traffic using the same road
• To prevent overtaking
• To commit the drivers to reduce speed
